Castle Douglas, the Dumford family home, is located on seventy-one acres in Rockwall County outside any city limits. Facing east, the castle overlooks hundreds of acres of rolling pasture. When one enters the grounds of Castle Douglas, it is like entering another world. A private road provides access, and the drive brings visitors through the countryside to a breathtaking view of the front of the castle as the road curves through the trees.Inside the ten-foot-high solid oak front doors, the armory welcomes visitors with a collection of museum-quality suits of armor representing the development of armor throughout history. To the left of the armory is a pub and a ballroom opening up onto a grand terrace dressed in gothic cast stone. To the right is the castle office and rooms for the bride and groom to dress with a chapel in the middle. Straight ahead from the armory through three gothic-arched openings is the great hall, rising forty-eight feet to the peak of the roof. Four massive exposed-wood beams, each weighing 3800 pounds, hang above the sixty by thirty-five-foot space. On the south wall of the great hall, across from the chapel opening, is a fourteen-foot-tall cast stone fireplace featuring the Scottish Lion rampant motif. In the east wall of the great hall is the minstrel's gallery leading off the second-story library and opening up into the great hall. One story above the minstrel's gallery is a small bagpiper's balcony. View the PRICING for our various facilities, and then Contact us to let us know what date(s) youre interested in.
